235m TVs were sold in 2014

"According to the worldwide TV market report from Futuresource Consulting, 4K TV shipments are expected to grow by 147 per cent in 2015, despite an overall 2 per cent fall in TV sales.
Global TV sales rose in 2014 by 3 per cent to reach 235 million units, with trade value up to $94 billion. The TV market landscape remains varied across the globe, with some regions, such as Latin America, experiencing significant growth, caused by the Brazilian World Cup and the start of analogue switch-offs in the region, which are set to continue beyond the forecast period. Europe, too, enjoyed 3 per cent growth. APAC, however, saw declines during 2014 but remained the largest region for TV demand, accounting for 37 per cent of shipments. With saturation in many countries within the region relatively low, Futuresource expects growth to return in the coming years."

Sky has 5.7m connected TV homes in the UK

"Sky connected three million Sky+HD boxes to broadband between June 2013 and 2014, more than doubling the base of connected homes to 5.7 million.
This means more than half of all Sky TV subscribers can now stream content over the web to their main television set.
"Our focus in the last 12 months has been on driving take-up and usage of connected TV services to enable more customers to benefit from a much richer entertainment experience," Sky stated.
"The investment we have made to put Sky at the heart of the ‘connected home’ has delivered results."
Sky said the rapid roll-out of connected TV has driven a threefold increase in on-demand viewing.
The service provider claimed its expanded Box Sets offering has proved "particularly popular".
"Box Set usage grew rapidly throughout the year to hit 86 million downloads in Q4 2014, a fourfold increase year-on-year," Sky noted.
"With more than 250 Box Sets now available on Sky and more of the latest titles than anyone else in the market, titles like '24' and 'Grey’s Anatomy' achieved over ten million downloads each.""

The median size of a TV reviewed on CNet

The data shows that the median size of a TV reviewed on CNET grew from 34 inches in 2002 to 46 inches in 2009.
Source:  Blog post on Flowing Data, 29th September 2009
Note - this is more 'interesting' than 'scientific', but it seems to illustrate that the TVs in people's homes are getting bigger, which rings true for me.
From the blog post:
"The numbers come from the past 745 dated CNet television reviews.  While reviews aren't a direct indicator of what televisions people buy, they do show what's on the market"

As many people in the UK plan to buy a tablet as plan to buy an HD TV in the next year

"The relationship between watching television and shopping online will get even closer in 2011, according to a Deloitte report, with fieldwork done by GfK, on behalf of the MediaGuardian Edinburgh International Television Festival, which takes place between 26–28 August 2011. Deloitte and GfK’s survey of 4,000 UK citizens found that as many consumers plan to buy a tablet computer as a new HD television in the year ahead, 13 per cent.
The tendency to watch television while browsing the Web has grown in popularity. Over half of the survey’s respondents now browse the Web while watching television. Only 22% never do so. In 2010, 39 per cent of all respondents never used the Web and television concurrently and, of those who did, about half did so only occasionally."

22% of US homes own an HDTV with integrated apps

"Over 60% of Internet-connected TV households use TV apps at least once per week, according to Scottsdale, Ariz.-based In-Stat. New wave TVs allow consumers to connect with Netflix, YouTube, Facebook, and more.
"As expected, Netflix and YouTube currently dominate the TV application space," says Keith Nissen, research director at In-Stat. "But as Netflix competitors become more numerous and as applications are optimized for the big screen, TV apps will become part of the mainstream TV viewing experience."
Right now, In-Stat says 22% of U.S. TV households already own an HDTV with integrated TV apps. Connected TVs with integrated TV applications will grow by an average 36% over the next five years."
