"Vittorio Colao, chief executive, said Britain's "digital citizens" are much more up to date with the latest technology than mainland Europeans.
Vodafone said 70pc of new customers signing up for a contract in the UK demand a smartphone, such as Apple's iPhone, compared with just four-in-10 in Europe.
Britons' desire for the latest technology pushed Vodafone's UK sales in the three months to the end of December up 7pc to £1.26bn - its best quarter since the summer of 2007.
The UK, alongside Turkey and India, was highlighted as a star performer, helping Vodafone achieve a 2.1pc increase in service revenues to £10.96bn."
